Author Guidelines

Before submitting, please review this page alongside Manuscript Preparation, which covers structure and formatting in detail.

Who can submit

Medical Physics Journal accepts submissions from researchers and clinical medical physicists worldwide, on any topic within the journal’s Aims & Scope. There is no restriction on authors’ nationality or institutional affiliation.

Language

Manuscripts must be submitted in English. Non-native English speakers are encouraged to have their manuscript reviewed by a fluent colleague, or a professional editing service, before submission — this is a suggestion, not a requirement, and does not affect editorial evaluation.

Before you submit

  • The manuscript is original, unpublished, and not under review elsewhere.
  • Every listed author meets the authorship criteria in Publication Ethics and has approved the submission.
  • Any required ethics approval is documented — see Research Ethics.
  • The manuscript file is prepared for double-anonymized review — author-identifying information removed from the reviewed file, per the checklist in Manuscript Preparation.
  • Any use of generative AI tools in preparing the manuscript is disclosed, per the AI Use Policy.

Publication fee

MPJ requires a publication fee for accepted manuscripts. Fee details will be announced by the journal — see Open Access, Copyright & Licensing. This fee has no bearing on the review or acceptance decision, which is made first, on scientific merit alone.

References and Citation Style

MPJ requires references to be prepared according to the Vancouver referencing style — the journal’s official and default citation style. In the manuscript text, cite references with sequential numbers in the order they first appear (not alphabetically), and list them in the reference list in that same numeric order, not alphabetical order. Abbreviate journal titles according to standard biomedical indexing conventions where a recognized abbreviation exists, and include a DOI whenever one has been registered for the cited work. Do not fabricate a DOI, volume, issue, or page range for a reference that is missing one.

Reference-list export formats such as BibTeX, RIS, and EndNote remain available for published articles; Vancouver is the human-readable citation style MPJ itself displays by default.
